Vending machine wares are pretty dependable. Here at Tassi, our vending machines and micro markets provide delicious and healthy snacks year-round, but did you know that some vending machine items are seasonal?
In a recent article in the Washington Post, one Washington DC vending company revealed to the author why their regular machine wasn’t carrying Snickers bars all of a sudden: in hot places, some chocolate candies get pulled during the summer.
When summer rolls around, candies like Reese’s Cups and Snickers are no longer stocked in many vending machines across the country because they are at risk of melting. Though most of the offices or buildings where vending machines are installed are air conditioned, the contents of the machines is driven over in the backs of large trucks that can get pretty hot. So if you’ve noticed that one of your favorites has been missing lately from your local vending machine, maybe it’s because of the weather.
Of course, one thing about vending machines is almost never seasonal, and that’s holiday merchandize. Even though all the big candy companies, and a lot of the soda ones, release special editions of their products to celebrate holidays—especially Christmas, Halloween, and Valentine’s Day—you’ll rarely see these products in a vending machine. Why? Because vending machine owners are usually wary to stock up on time-specific items for fear that they won’t sell out before the holiday passes. So even though you might see some items discreetly disappear from the shelves during the summer, you probably aren’t ever going to be able to buy a chocolate Easter bunny out of a vending machine.
