Business owners and managers in any industry are continually looking for ways to increase employee productivity, but few can afford to spend thousands of dollars to do so. Luckily, increasing productivity without breaking the bank is not outside the realm of possibility. Here are some simple, low-cost ways to increase productivity at your place of business.
Bring lunch to them.
When your team is busy working on a big project, they may not have time to take a full lunch break – it’s possible that even stepping out to get something they can eat at their desk isn’t possible. One way you can show your support without breaking the bank is to find a local restaurant that is willing to bring by some sandwiches or a variety of to-go meals that your employees can purchase. It will boost morale because your employees will know you’re aware of and accommodating their needs, and increase productivity because they won’t have to take valuable time to go hunting for food. Plus, it won’t cost you anything except s bit of legwork!
Focus on employee happiness.
A University of Warwick study recently found that happiness alone can increase your employees’ productivity up to 12 percent. This is particularly true in creative industries, where the New Economics Foundation found that happiness could improve employee creativity by up to 50 percent. Considering and implementing seemingly non-work-related benefits such as adding plants, organizing breaks for exercise, and giving employees plenty of space and good workspace furniture are ways to improve the happiness of your staff. And therefore, increase their productivity.
Do small acts of appreciation.
Beyond a decent paycheck, the employees of today want more emotional and relational benefits out of their job. Make it a point to show your appreciation for hard work, and develop a framework for your managers to do the same. Doing some little things, such as offering your employees some easy, healthy lunch and snack options with your vending services, to giving them time off to volunteer or pursue special projects can go a long way toward making your employees feel appreciated.
